My Big Fat Greek Vacation...

In light of being deemed an "essential employee" during the government shutdown, I started day dreaming about taking a vacation.

Did you see the movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding"? Well, this was our "Big Fat Greek Vacation!". We had a blast!
In 2009, my sisters (all 4 of us), my sister in law, her sister and my brother's girlfriend at the time all went on an All Girl's Trip to Greece. We spent 10-days together and it was a memorable 10-days.
We visited Mykonos, Santorini & Athens. I look back and smile at how young we all looked and how much fun we all had.

I wish we could plan another trip like this again.

Arriving on the Island of Mykonos. All smiles. I almost missed my connecting flight because the gate was changed and no official announcement was made!

Mykonos! Beautiful place!

View from our hotel. Yup...there was a beach right there. We woke up to this view 3 mornings in a row. LOVED IT!

The architecture was just amazing. Everything looked so pretty.

Ouzo. A traditional greek drink. Let's just say, we had a few :-).

The crew. Sisters by birth, by marriage and by friendship.

Not a bare feet beach gal. I wore my flip flops EVERYWHERE!

After a day of shopping and feasting on gelatos!

We went to this place so many times for refreshments, the guy wanted to take a picture with us. Everytime we went there, he'd say "my ladies...all my ladies...come sit come sit"

Climb every mountain!!! A once active volcano.

I made it to the top!!!

I actually rode a donkey! THAT was a first for me. Not sure I'd do it again. The hills were STEEEEEPPPPPP!!!

But I made it to the top. All smiles. Finally off that donkey!

Well worth it to get to the top. We had dinner at this restaurant. Isn't that view spectacular?

Sunset while eating.

Heading out on our first Catamaran adventure. It was beautiful.

Visiting some wineries.

We actually swam here. The salt water concentration was so high that for days, I had salt caked in my hair!

Temple at Athens!

Me and my little sis.

Ruins in Athens

Yup...we walked around to the top. We were quite adventurous.

It was an amazing day visiting the ruins
Have you ever been to Greece? If so, did you enjoy it? What was your favorite thing to do while there?
I loved the gyros! I still have not been able to find any place that makes it as good as the ones we had in Greece.

  2. Gyros are one of my favorite foods! I have been on the hunt to find a grocer that sells the meat so I can make them at home, but have yet to find one :( Anyway Greek is on my list of top 5 places I want to visit before I hit 40! The Greek islands are so darn pretty. I fell in love with them after I watched the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.

  3. What a great post J. You are such a world traveler, we are so similar :). I went to Greece 3 years ago when I was pregnant with my Tman, loved it. We didn't get to do the Islands so I am definitely going back. I want to go to Santorini so badly.

Looks like an awesome trip though. Love love the pics

    1. Yup yup! I realized I never posted pics from past travels so I am getting to that now. I enjoy it so much! I wish I could go every other month but things have certainly changed with kids. I am looking forward to when I hit the mega-millions so I can travel whenever. Of course, I have to start buying lotto tickets first :-).
