Last Saturday marked 1-year since my last texlax. I had a poll at the top of my blog for readers to vote. Thank you to all those who voted. You certainly made the decision much easier. I think I was already there but I needed some reassurances that I wasn't completely nuts! Although, if you ask J, he might tell you sometimes, my ideas are :-).
Anyways, here are the results.
On Saturday morning, after giving JOE a bath and doing her hair, I decided to tackle my hair.
First, I made a spray bottle mix. It is the same mix I use every weekend when I deep condition my hair. I just needed to make more since I was almost out and I wanted to make sure I'd have enough.
This is what I almost always have in my conditioning spray bottle. Typically on Saturdays, I'll spray it on my hair and put on my foil cap to trap the heat. I wear it while I give JOE a bath and do her hair. Then by the time that's done, I am ready to jump in the shower.
This time, I sprayed my hair but instead of washing, I snipped snipped snipped!!!
Here's a short clip of the video recorded by J.
And the end results...I like it! Now I know what people mean when they say "shrinkage!" But so far, I don't mind too too much. This is how I rocked it on Saturday.
The length of my hair. It is about 6-inches in front and 7 at the back. I'll have to take a picture next Saturday so I have it for my reference in the future. The back of my hair has always grown faster and longer than the front. The middle of my hair grows VERY slowly.
Then on Sunday morning when I woke up, I decided to 2-strand twist my hair while sitting in bed. Yup...I had the whole Coolio hair thing going :-).
See what I mean? :-)
And this is how I wore it to work this morning.
So far, I am loving my journey. I can honestly say I was one of the lucky ones because I didn't have a terrible journey. It was pretty smooth sailing.
I don't know if I'll continue to document my hair journey but if I try something new, I'll be sure to share it here.
In the meantime, feel free to share any fun hairstyles you think will look good on my somewhat short hair. I am not a fan of heat. I always end up with a burn even when it is being done by professionals so I think I'll be waiting until sometime next year before I flat iron my hair.
Nice hair pics! I'm glad you finally made yourself happy and snipped snipped snipped- lol ;-) Short hairstyles- I like pinning my sides back and front into a puff and letting my curls free in the back. It's easy, looks professional for work and is an instant fix when the fronts of my hair don't lay/curl right.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I wish I could say I "feel free" like everyone always says but I just feel regular. I am doing the same things I did during my transitioning process and so far, nothing new. I think the only difference is that I now have to mist my hair every morning and apply some shea butter mix so it isn't too dry. Other than that, it is business as usual for me. I can see myself being a lazy natural. I was a lazy relaxed gal afterall :-).
DeleteI'll have to try the style you described. Thanks for sharing!
Way to go Jay. And you can still do a very cute puff after the chop. I don't know if you already know this blogger, but she's shared some really cute styles on her blog starting from when she had a twa to her current big fro. Maybe you might find some inspiration there. http://www.myfroandi.com/
ReplyDeleteThank you! The puff will be quite small but I'll take it since its all mine :-D.
DeleteI've never been on the site you mentioned but I can't wait to check it out. THANK YOU!!!
She has a good video of the style I described. She has a really good site!
DeleteGo J, you did it girl, that is so awesome girl. Your hair looks amazing, your curls are so defined. You make me want to go natural.
ReplyDeleteI found that once I reached a nice spot with my hair journey I didn't really feel like documenting all the time anymore, there really wasn't much happening anyway.
Thank you! I am getting used to it and so far, I like it. I will be posting an update next week on how things are going. So far, so good.
DeleteYou should do it! It was totally easier than I thought it would be. Perhaps you can do it with your next pregnancy. Take advantage of the growth hormones :-). That's what I did anyways :-D.
I was for cutting it. You look good and you'll see how quick they grow back. I like Coolio so that hair style can be cool too :). You're styling it nicely.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I feel really good not that its been almost 6-weeks. I am getting used to just styling it. It really is less stressful than when I had a relaxer in my hair.
