Well, here's my monthly hair update. I honestly can't over state how easy this transition and natural hair journey has been for me. I think it really is because it caters to my lazy hair regimen. Don't get me wrong...I co-wash once a week and try to keep my hair looking neat but I don't feel like I have to do as much protection as I did when my hair was relaxed. All I do in the mornings is spritz with water and add my Shea butter mix. Easy peazy.
Anyways, here are some pictures of my journey so far.
Like I have said in the past, the back of my hair grows really fast!
And like I have said in the past, the front of my hair grows at a snail's pace! Yikes! The great thing though is that I no longer need gel to get the front in a puff. It now fits nicely so that's definitely a plus.
The Saturday before Thanksgiving, I decided to do a clay wash. I have heard about it and some of my friends on FB swear by it so I decided to try it with a "wash and go". I don't know if the clay wash or the after treatment was the reason for my curls but I loved the outcome.
Day 1 Wash and Go results
To maintain my hair, at night, I put my hair in bunches like this. It helped to retain the curls as well as stretched my hair.
Day 3 Wash and Go results.
And here is a picture of my puff comparison. Its just 2-days shy of a month.
And since I am not the only lady in the house, here's one of JOE's hair from 11/29/14. This child's hair is GROWING!!! And it is taking longer to get it done! After doing her hair on Saturday, I decided to forgo doing mine until Monday. Since JOE isn't exactly thrilled about getting her hair done, it is often very tiresome afterwards.
And how cute is this picture? JOE often does her dad's hair when I am doing her hair. He let's her because it is a way for her to be distracted. Last Saturday, she decided to do more by adding bows to his hair. I love this picture! I mean, how sweet is hubby to actually let her do this AND let me take a picture of it? Priceless! I'll be adding this to the pic collage when she gets married :-D.
The love between these 2 melts my heart!
Wishing you blessings for the rest of your week. And since we are in the holiday season, please be sure to keep those who have lost loved ones in your prayers. The holidays are especially hard for many.
Wow, your hair looks so good! I've never heard of the clay treatment. Will defo be looking up on that and its benefits. JOE's hair is crazy long!!! Love it!!!! And a huge high 5 to Dad for being such a good sport. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! I plan on doing a post about the clay treatment as well. So far, its lasted. Even through my last co-wash. I plan on doing it monthly because I like the results.
DeleteCould you tell me which clay treatment did you use? I've been dabbling with the idea of a clay treatment in the back of my mind. Your results look amazing! Joe and J's pics are indeed priceless. They are so sweet!
ReplyDeleteHello,
DeleteI will do a post about the clay treatment the next time I do it which is next month. Hubby wasn't home when I did this one so there was no one to film it but I'll be sure to schedule it for a weekend when he is home so that he can assist with filming it. I must say I love the results even 2 weeks after I did it.
Your hair looks amazing, you can see the growth! I've heard of the clay treatment but I haven't done it yet.
ReplyDeleteAnd her hair is growing so much too! Love that he is such a great sport! I can't imagine my dad ever letting us do that to him, hahaha.
Thank you! And thank you for your encouragement through my journey. It certainly helped. Do try the clay treatment. I think you might like it. I definitely still like the results even 2-weeks after I did it and I plan on adding it as a monthly routine for me.
DeleteLOL...I don't think my dad would ever have allowed me to do that either as a child. Then again, I don't know of many African dads who would. LOL!
The clay treatment seems to work very well for you! It looks really nice and Joe's hair! Lovely! I know what you mean about it being a tiresome job! I always dread getting my daughter's hair done too! Maybe I'll try your technique and see if it works, love it!
ReplyDeleteIt did work well for me. I am adding it as a monthly regimen for me because even 2-weeks after doing it, I am still seeing the benefits. The middle of my head which has always been the most coarse part of my hair definitely has looser curls.
DeleteHow do you typically get your daughter's hair done? I am always open to ideas since the same thing often doesn't work more than twice in a row.
I could see the growth too! LOVE the pics of JOE and J with their hairstyles, so adorable.
ReplyDeleteThank you! The growth is definitely what keeps me motivated. How are you? How are your sweet boys? Looking forward to reading more posts with your babies. Hope your holidays are going well so far.
DeleteLove the tips you gave on couponing. Helpful!
J, your hair is growing like crazy. I am so loving that you had an easy transition
ReplyDeletethat pic of JOE and her dad is amazing. Definitely save that for her wedding :).
Thank you! I am taking advantage of pregnancy hormones :-D. And yes, it was done on purpose :-). Had to plan it right. :-). I also plan on going back on the Manetabolism vitamins after I have the next baby. While it says it is safe during pregnancy, because no studies have been done about drug interactions, I choose to be safe and skip it while pregnant.
DeleteI did the big chop about a month ago. There are days when I love it and then there are days where Im like - I cannot believe I cut my hair off. My curls seem to be really tight. However, I can tell it's growing when I stretch it out. Next step is to head over to a salon that specializes in natural hair because Im guessing the straight ends that Im seeing at the very end is still relaxed hair. Your hair has definitely grown and Im loving the curls.
ReplyDeleteToo cute to see your hubby allowing Joe to put barrettes in his hair and allowing you to take a pic...lol. Priceless!
Do try the clay treatment. I will a video on how I do it the next time I do but if you can't wait, you can also check on YouTube. I did the easiest method I could find. The middle of my hair is the most coarse and I can honestly say that after doing the treatment, it is much looser. The same might work for you.
DeleteHow long did you transition? I think because I transitioned for a year, I was able to get a good amount of hair before I did the big chop. So far, I am still loving it. But I hear not everyone always feels the same way. It took me a year to come to terms with the fact that I will be chopping off my hair so I had a little more time to deal with it mentally.
I don't plan on going to a salon until my hair is longer and hopefully at that point, I won't mind parting with a few inches. Right now, I just do a "search and clip" when I see straight ends. I figured I'll save the salon visit for when I want to straighten my hair and that'll likely be after baby arrives. Until then, it'll be just me managing my hair :-).
Good luck on your hair journey!
I love the texture of your curls....looks so so good!! I still haven't been able
ReplyDeleteTo figure out the texture of my hair..I feel like that makes a big difference!!
Thank you! The curl texture varies around my hair. The middle is the most coarse part of my hair and I think the clay treatment certainly helped it a lot. How do you maintain your natural hair? I know some folks swear by it but I honestly think everyone's hair responds to things differently. You just need to find out what works for you. Do you go to a salon to get your hair done or do you do it yourself?
