Foolery: Pet peeves

TGIF!!! I am so happy it is Friday because we have a couple of fun things planned for this weekend. More on that next week.

I haven't done a foolery post in a while and after the week I have had, I figured its time for one. This week's foolery post is dedicated to my pet peeves so here they go.

Pet peeve #1: Folks who don't wash their hands after using the restroom and then want to shake your hands (not necessarily on the same day of the incident). PLEASE for the sake of all that is healthy, WASH YOUR HANDS!!! Its really kinda scary when I see that because I wonder what else you're carrying on you. And if you choose to not wash your hands, please don't be offended if I choose not to shake your hands the next time I see you. Oh and this also applies to people who rinse and go! That's not the same thing!!! Wash your hands with SOAP AND WATER!!!

Pet peeve #2: Folks who reply to all to say "thank you". I understand that in this day and age, everyone sends an email almost as a form of CYA in the work force. But PLEASE, there is NO NEED to hit the reply to all when you say thank you! It is a waste of email space and most people (myself included) just hit delete anyways so why bother? This is more an email etiquette for me. See #5 for my other "thank you" pet peeve. If someone did something and you want to say thank you, then just reply to that person.

Pet peeve #3: Folks who look away when you try to say hello so they don't have to acknowledge you. This one is especially annoying and I encountered several incidents this week. I mean come on! I saw that you saw me. Its not like I am about to ask you for money or ask to come visit you at home. Its one thing if you don't want to say hello (a quick phony smile will suffice) but please, don't insult people's intelligence by looking away after you can clearly see that they saw you. The only exception here is if we are genuinely not speaking to each other due to a mutual dislike. If that's the case, feel free to ignore altogether :-). I'll be sure to do the same. But don't ignore me in the hallway and then come by my office or see me in a meeting and smile at me.

Pet peeve #4: Folks who intentionally walk through a door quickly so as not to hold the door for you. Gosh, if you only know the thoughts that go through my head when you do this. Oftentimes, I want to ask if you are just too lazy or if you have a relative in the hospital or something that you're trying to get to. Yes, I understand people being absent minded and busy but come on! If you see someone 2-5 feet away, it takes no more than 3-seconds (yes I calculated) to hold the door for the next person. This leads me to the next pet peeve.

Pet peeve #5: Folks who don't say thank you. This is just sooooooo wrong on so many levels. We all have to serve in one capacity or another. Its just the way life is. Saying thank you should come with the receipt of any act of service. This one bothers me enough that I make sure JOE ALWAYS says thank you at the end of the day when her child care provider is leaving. J even commented yesterday that after he got JOE ready for the day, she said "thank you dada". It warmed my heart because I know she is learning to be grateful.
PLEASE teach your children to say thank you! "Charity begins at home". It'll serve them well in life. I know you shouldn't do things in hopes of getting a thank you but saying it shows gratitude and shows that you are glad someone took the time out of their way to do something for you.

Getting off my soap box now. Do you have any pet peeves? If so, please share! I'd love to read them :-).

Have a fabulous and safe weekend and remember to be kind to strangers!

  1. That was funny, but sooo true. I can really relate, too. Okay, I've got a good one to add to your list. What about when you're driving and some careless idiot cuts you off when they know good and well that there isn't enough room for them to squeeze in front of you. You end up slamming on your brakes and just as you barely miss crashing into his bumper by about an inch, they put up their hand to say 'thank you.' Gggggrrrrr... That's one of my biggest pet peeves.

  2. I agree with you about all the pet peeves...the door one is hilarious because it really does happen. I am terrible for not saying thank you sometimes but i am getting better..it's because i am always thinking about a million things but that's no excuse. hubby gets on me about that all the time.

    1. Hey, sounds like you know it and are working on it. That's definitely a step in the right direction.
