DIY: My $40 brunch for a party of 5

It was a pretty full but relaxing weekend. I hosted a brunch on Saturday and it was a lot of fun. It was also a lot of work to prep before and clean up after. Thankfully, J was able to take care of JOE while I tackled everything.

On Friday evening, I stopped by the grocery store to get some flowers and lemons to use as a centerpiece for our brunch.

We got the large jug as a wedding present and the flowers were $4. The limes were 3 for $1 and I got 6 (5 in the vase and 1 as garnish for lime water). Total cost for centerpiece was $6.

On Saturday morning, I got to work. Here's our table setting. Everything on the table with the exception of the centerpiece we already had at home. It was more a matter of mixing and matching. The table cloth was a gift from J's late grandmother. I love the way it made all the colors pop!

On the menu was the following:
  • Ham & Cheese wheels
  • Crescent rolls
  • Sausages
  • Spinach & bacon quiche
  • Cran-orange mamosa
  • Blueberry muffins
The Ham & Cheese wheels didn't take long at all. This was a Pinterest idea as well. I just threw my spin on it and made it a breakfast one instead.

We already had the salsa and hot sauce at home. All I got was the whipped cream cheese spread. Total cost $1.79

Cheese was $2.99, ham was $3.79 and tortillas was on sale for $2.99.

Spread the sauce on the tortilla, then put on the ham and add the cheese then roll up and cut.

Total cost for these was $11.56

I didn't plan my time properly and J ended up making the sausages and crescent rolls. Gotta love my hubby! He did them while taking care of JOE which gave me a chance to take a shower before my guests arrived. I got 2 packets of this at $1.99 a piece. Total cost was $3.98

These were on sale. I got the store brand. Each was $1.16. I used 2 rolls. Total cost $2.32

The quiche is a very very very old recipe from a former co-worker. I got it 10-years ago! If you are interested, here it is:

4 eggs
1 cup on milk
1/2 cup of mayo
2 tablespoons of flour
8 oz of cheese (I used a four cheese mix)
2/3 cup of small diced onions
1 jar of REAL bacon bits (in salad dressing isle)
1 frozen pie crust
Preheat oven to 350.  Beat eggs with flourmilk and mayonnaise .  Mix in bacon bits and onions.  Add cheese.  Pour mixture into frozen pie crust and bake for 45-60 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean when inserted into the center.

I have used roll out dough for the crust and also done it crust-less and each time, its tasted yummy!!!

I had all the ingredients for this at home including the pie crust. They often come as 2 in a pack. I had one crust leftover from an apple pie I made a while back. Total cost for this was $0

As J would say, "yummy goodness!" Everything turned out great. The mini-cupcakes was brought by one of my friends. They were oh so good!

This was also quite easy and relatively inexpensive. The moscato was $4.99, I added that with some mixed fruit (already had this at home) I already had at home and got a frozen cranberry and frozen orange concentrate (each $1 at Wal-mart). I added half the water recommended since the moscato was going to go in there. Total cost for this was $6.99

I love this mix because it comes with real blueberries in a can. They are slightly pricier than the regular box mix but I prefer them. The cost is $2.39 compared to the regular $1.99 at our local grocery store.

I got this board from Amazon. Total cost was $4.99 (it was an "add on item"...in other words, my entire purchase had to be over $35 to get this price).

These yummy goodness was brought by one of my friends. They were gone baby GONE in no time at all.
The total cost for this brunch came to $38.23. Granted, it took me 3.5 hours to get everything prepared but you can't beat the price.

The fun and smiles on my beautiful friend's face? PRICELESS! We had a great time!

I took the below picture because no post would be complete without the people who make this all possible...JOE & J. LOVE THEM!!!

After church on Sunday, I was just too tired to do anything else so instead, J went to the grocery store to do our household shopping while JOE and I got a nap. SCORE!

I hope you had a fantastic weekend! Here's to an even more fantastic week.

  1. Here, here! Your weekend sounds like it went great. I was also planning a get-together where all the guests would make some gumbo- but hubby got sick and it was cancelled! I got a nice relaxing weekend instead- so win, win. Lol. I like how you put together your centerpiece. I'll have to use this idea soon. :-)

    1. Thank you! It was all yummy but spending the time with my friends was the best. As moms, we don't get to do it often so it is always nice to be able to catch up and just chat and be merry :-).
