A visit to San Andres, Columbia

In late 2007, not too long after I met J, I signed up with a group called "DC Professionals." I wanted to get to know other professionals in the area who loved to travel. J & I had been on a couple of dates but things got complicated and we went our separate ways...soon to meet up again in early 2008 :-).

Anyways, back to the story...after I signed up with the group, turns out they had organized a trip for single like-minded individuals. It was to San Andres Island in Columbia.

In May 2008, I took my first solo trip. As in I didn't go with anyone I knew. I ended up making 2 good friends from that trip and we are still friends today.

I went out of my comfort zone and I am glad I did. I even went zip-lining! On our way back, we had a layover in Panama. A group of us decided to take advantage of that and visit the Panama Canal. I am glad we did because it was definitely worth seeing.

Here are some pictures from our trip.

About to land on the Island of San Andres.

Our welcoming committee. We also got mamosas. Yum!

By the water. It was so nice. The group spent quite a few nights in the bar behind me :-)

We went on an excursion of the Island. Got to see a very old bat cave!

Look at how clear the water is. The group went snorkeling but I chose to remain on the boat. Yes I can swim but I didn't want to go in the water!

We all got cowboy hats prior to going out that morning. I chose to wear mine cause I thought it was funny.

All geared up and ready to go zip-lining...

The group...The 2 girls to my left are now good friends of mine.

Yup...that's me! I did it, I did it!

After we got back on land! I had such a huge grin, my friend caught a picture of it. I got such an endorphin high from it! I was ready to go again.

A rare white hibiscus. Local to the Island.

Made it to the Panama Canal

Me with the Canal behind me. A ship was about to cross. I was so sick from the 3-failed attempts to land the plane. EVERYONE was sick. Let's just say that flight was one for the books!

I had a great time on my trip and if I weren't married with a kid, I would totally do another trip like it. It was so great to get out of my comfort zone because I got to do things I never thought I'd do and I met some pretty cool people.

How about you? Have you ever done something you never thought you'd do and enjoyed it? If so, do share!
